Interesting Life

James Dooley certainly lived an interesting life, practicing in the fields of Civil, Electrical, Structural, Mechanical Plumbing, Fire Protection, HVAC and Refrigeration Engineering, but also found love, though late in life (1998, when he was 79.) Might take time to find, but I bet it was worth it.

It rises again?

76% Dixie
Are you more Yankee or Dixie?
To complement this, I direct you to a speech accent archive. The english sample from eastern tennessee really does sound just like home. Stutters and all. (from ghani)

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

The weekend highlight reel

Not only did I work 20 hours this weekend, it was also Anchor Splash, Winefest, and Ralph got married this weekend. Highlights include:
-A girl telling me I'm super cool (at the bar, a bartender's sister in law)
-Getting paid with an old 20
-Nailing the shoulder stand at Anchor Splash (we couldn't get it in practice)
-Hanging out with the boys like we'd never left college
-Ralph getting married
-Getting to wear my princess coat
-The bouquet hitting me when the bride threw it
-Buying crown and buttershots and "making" our own buttery crowns in our mouths, in the car, in the parking lot of the reception
-Finishing two fifths of liquor in 10 minutes between 5 of us
-Saying "Marriage is stuipid. All of a sudden you're sleeping with a relative."
"Joel should swallow more"
-Getting my picture taken holding the keys to Nagi's car
-Joel requesting Sir Mix-a-lot, and it was the last song of the evening
-They call me "HotPalila," even Nagi's girlfriend, behind my back. It makes me suddenly very very happy to know about this.

The news keeps getting wierder

Internet-surfing teen learns his mom is accused of his abduction.

All Things just keep getting better

After the recent surgery, I went all out and donned a 2-piece bathing suit last night. A little scary, but it's not too bad. At least the front of the top is long, so it covers nearly everything. Synchronized swimming pactice went well and with cheerleaders on the team, we've got stunts this year: basket tosses, shoulder stands, people in hands and lifting them up in a high lift. and flips (as much as we're allowed.) I feel such a sense of accomplishment, knowing how to do a shoulder stand and get up in hands.
I furthered my diving skills and learned how to do a front flip after practice. To get the tumbling of the cheer session, full effect, whatever. I also opened a chapter of "Palila's School of Diving" and taught one of the girls how to dive- she's going off the diving board now. I'm still accepting students.

Heard 'round the world

I'm looking for a good synchronized swimming song. We've done "Just a Girl," "One Girl Revolution," and "I'm a believer" in the past. Moderate beat, not too fast, but still peppy, and with words people know. "Supermodel" is at the top of my list right now. Any other ideas?

Civil?

CNN has listed the highest paying college degrees in 2004. According to them, I should be pulling in about $48,656. Where the hell is my money?

It's true

With the purchase of another beverage, the Queer Eye song is mine!
Other things that are true:
I have 842 songs in my playlist
The most played song is You Gotta be by Desiree
The most recently played song is God is a DJ by Pink
The 100th most played song is The End of the World by R.E.M.
I'm wearing a bright pink shirt to match my boyfriend, Flamant
My boyfriend is a pink plastic flamingo that lives in my living room radiator
Dark chocolate with almonds and cranberry juice is one of my favorite Pity Party snacks

You are the music

With purchase today of beverage, I won a song! The winner of my first download, narrowly beating out "Things Just Keep Getting Better" from Queer Eye: "God is a DJ" by Pink

Dinner and a movie

I cooked last night, from a recipe found after discussing making pad thai with Ghani. So off to wal-mart I went, only finding a 2-lb bag of beans and no salt pork. Started the "hey-you-forgot-to-soak-the-beans-overnight-didn't-you-dumbass" method of softening the beans and went off to kroger. After a 20 minute search, I found the salt pork, sliced, and it was twice as much as I needed. No biggie, I'll just make a double recipie. Movie store- They didn't have sliding doors on dvd and the one on vhs was taken, so I got "Castle in the Sky."
Back at home, I started fixing up the soup and found that 2 of my 3 onions had gone bad (I'm not really sure how long I've had them.) So I added extra garlic. When it came time for the cornbread, I found that I had extra-protien mix, with the bugs already mixed in. Tossed that.
Started watching the movie, which, after chapter 4, kept skipping so it went straight to the end. !happy. Watched "Bring it On Again" instead. Thank goodness I also picked up a bottle of wine.
In the end, the soup turned out well, but I have way too much of it, and am willing to have a soup bean dinner with anybody if they're willing to help with the cornbread.

Happy VD

I have to work Saturday night (VD), for which I'm grateful, since I'd almost certainly be either staying home and pigging out or going out and drinking. VD's not always been my favorite day of the year, even decidedly not celebrating it depresses me. When George and I were little, Dad would always get us a little box of chocolates, or one big one to share, and that was happy. My favorite present's from the Borleans: a bear with a heart, and when you pull out the heart, the bear "Shakes with joy." I'm afraid I'm going to rip its heart off, it's so fun to play with. (Minds out of the gutter.) Boys, on the other hand, have different ideas of VD. Presents I have gotten:
A deck of magic cards (blue, because I like the color blue.)
a rose (go, PB!)
nothing
nothing
a whiny nothing
a pointed, whiny, "we're not celebrating it" nothing (which carried over into the anniversary 3 days later, when I still got nothing, since I had already "ruined it" with my card-giving)

It wasn't a coffee grinder...

Stories of bad roommates that make me feel just a little better.

fire

Recently, Ghani and I started playing with fire, an all-in-one chat client. It's wonderful. It blends with the brushed metal theme (if you want,) has no ads, and an extremely user friendly, customizable Buddy list interface. (unlike iChat, which doesn't do the groups. I guess they assume iChat users don't have many friends.)
Plus, I can make it say "Ghanaye" when Ghani signs on.

Saturday Night

One of my Job[Term] co-workers came in, trashed. He'd already gotten punched at the Tap room, but walked the 3 blocks over to see all of us, beligerent as he was.
He thought smacking the waitress's rear ends was a good idea.
I had him kicked out.

The morning after

Last night was a sucessful Night Out, in which I visited no fewer than three (3) establishments serving beer and ending, of course, at IHOP and discovering that their honey mustard dipping sauce is.. lacking. I do dislike waking in the morning with unexplainable bruises- seem to have gathered 2, a small round one on my hand and a large dark one on my thigh. Worry factor=0.12

Goofball opens a package

"They overdid it with the tape here."

Me: Do you need a knife? I have a knife.

"Let's see what Fred has on his desk. Oh, this'll work. A screw."
"Nothing like a screw to open a box."
"Just, just trying to screw the old box here."
"It's a feisty one."

Why didn't I know?

International Blog Meetup Day invites you to meet up with other Bloggers in your area on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. At first, I felt sad that I had no idea about it (Except for Alex Lo, a Rose Student.) and then I checked the location vote. No Votes.

Ticket me

Ghani is looking for help with a project, looking for picture of your ticket purchasing system (kiosks, screens, etc.), pictures of your tickets, and pictures of purchasing tickets for a "design a new London tube ticket kiosk" project. All the details.

Lifestyle changes

Roomie told (wrote on the whiteboard) last night that she's moving out in August [Muahahaha, I win!] but, I'm still conflicted over the "next year living situation." Do I:
a. look for a new roommate to move into her room, thereby avoiding moving myself and keeping the tiny kitchen
b. stay in the apartment by myself with an empty room and high rent costs
c. move to a smaller, 1br apartment with a larger kitchen, a dishwasher, smaller bedroom, usable porch, and slightly higher rent than I'm paying now
d. look to buy a house
e. sell all my worldly posessions and live in stranger's basements

Click click, boom

I've done a bad thing. I forgot about a 6pk of Dr. Enuf in my backseat during the freezing coldness of the past few days. Discovered it today, quite exploded, all the bottles.

To my Sister

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you!
Happy Birthday, dear Booger-head...
Happy Birthday to you!

Thought about calling when I woke up, to ask about your shadow, but figured I'd get more words than I was asking for, and not all of infomational nature.
