Domestic Engineering

This afternoon, for dinner, I started a crockpot stew. It started out well, when I got home and realised that the lady had scanned my already-discounted pre-cut stew beef incorrectly and I wasn't charged for it. Then I searched for the carrot peeler. It was a little ghetto, with "real-a-peel" written on the side, but it worked well - if you're left-handed. After trying to peel with my left hand, then right-handed but towards me, I ended up putting it my right fist and peeling with my hand on the opposite side, like a kid with a giant new crayon.

Post

The Plan:
Go to TN on Christmas Eve, through Corydon and Louisville. Get my car in Lousiville and G and I would caravan through the day, arriving for several days of at-home-ness before I had to get back to IN for work on Thursday.

The Reality:
Couldn't leave Indiana because of the depth of the snow, ended up spending Christmas in Fort Wayne, driving back to Louisville on Sunday, went to a function with TCB that night in Corydon, slept at his mother's house. After digging my car out of the driveway in Louisville and doing some minor repairs to my car, TCB and I caravaned down to JoCy. We took my car in to have it repaired, there's more wrong with it than we thought, there's no way I can return to teh Haute by Thurs, so I'm down in Atlanta, at TCB's, until Friday, when we'll go back up to TN.

Eek.

ETSU Home

My Transcript from ETSU finally came in today, I can submit my GA Tech application!
For Ghani, they also have a semester abroad in Edinburgh. Just think, if you'd been on the 7-year plan, you could go!

Still

Still waiting on the snowstorm, so here are some fun links!
Put off getting into the holiday spirit? eigenradio has synthesized holiday music (eigenradio puts together up to 20 or so songs by playing only those beats with the 'highest entropy.') For more nerd fun, there's the Math of Christmas. And finally, for all your holiday party and elf needs: Rent A Midget.

Flaking out

We're battening down the hatches in preparation for a winter storm that will, supposedly, dump 2-8 inches of snow on us. The huge spread in the numbers makes me feel confident. So, we'll see if Geo and I actually drive home for christmas or get to spend it in the lovely Haute!

Put down that ninja star!

George and I learned a few things from our attending and throwing a party in the last week- Not only do we know how to throw an awesome party, we can clear a room in no time flat. We ended up watching movies and talking the ear off of our guest.

Today, unfortunately, George is sick with a little touch of what she thinks is food poisoning. We think it's from the Chinese - chicken and mushrooms - that we ordered Monday. Ironically, I felt crappy, so I didn't eat any, just had the wonton soup.

Solstice

George is back in town! I met her and Aunt S. at a shopping outlet, we exchanged the George, and now she's back up in the Haute with me and we're preparing for solstice dinner. Also, went to a party last night. Played strip poker. Broke the zipper on my skirt. Somewhat hungover.

Another exciting night

Last night at the bar, though it wasn't nearly as exciting as Wednesday night, we still had our share of... interesting people.

First- there was the girl that liked to squeal like a little girl, when she was anything BUT a 'little girl.'
Then a guy with a teddy bear and a long piece of rope came in, talking to his bear, and wrapping it up with the rope, on himself, so he didn't have to hold it, that kind of thing. The bear was really cute, though I don't think the bear was quite 21.
Finally, after joking around all night, one of the regulars decided that I play on both teams. Joking and hilarity ensued.

The Magical Land

I adopted a cute lil' fairy fetus from Fetusmart! Hooray fetus!

Been naughty

Last night at the bar, we had our big Christmas Party, with all tips benefiting the local Humane Society. We had some celebrety waiters, 2 people each from the 2 local news stations, and I got the job of following one around, getting the drinks and such that people ordered.

BUT! we had other excitement!

Some time in the evening, a guy started leaning over the pool table where a game was set up to win prizes. Just started leaning over, making retching noises. His buddy grabbed one of the raffle prizes, a Bud Radio/cooler, and ran. The other guy tried to run, too, but "Santa" and one of the other bartenders caught him. You know you've been too naughty for even coal when Santa's taking you out of the bar, holding you up with one arm.

Another reason I dislike December

December should be declared the month of the funeral home. Article and obit.
I didn't get to meet her, but you always spoke so highly of her. I hope she always lives on in your heart.

Taquito Turmoil

Friday night, after the Fight for Sobriety party, I came home and, since I hadn't really eaten since 5, I thought I'd make a snack. My first instinct: taquitos. Now, I got a different kind of taquito last time than my usual kind, because they were on sale and I had a coupon. So I turned on the oven, got out the taquitos, cooked them to crispiness. During the cooking, I apparently decided I didn't want taquitos, I wanted eggs. I turned off the oven, made my eggs and went to bed with a full belly.
The next morning, I was making a baked potato and wondered, "What the hell are cooked taquitos doing in my oven? I had eggs last night."

Saturday night, after the Upstairsville Christmas Party I came home and, again, decided I needed a snack. "Taquitos!" I thought. So I started heating the oven, got out two taquitos, put them on a pan, and remembered I had leftover chicken from dinner that night with Sid. I had chicken, set the taquito timer and fell asleep on the couch with the timer next to my head. I woke up when Mom called, wandered to the kitchen and found the oven still on and quite pre-heated and the now-thawed taquitos sitting on top of the stove. Good thing I'd forgotten to put them in the oven.

Like a bird or a stray

Yesterday, I was chilling, listening to some of iTunes's past free songs of the week and I found I was really digging "Sleeping With the Lights On" by Teitur. Then I remembered I'd seen this guy in concert, opening for John Mayer and not only did I have the cd, I'd met the guy and had it autographed.

Smartness

He walked up to the bar with some empty bottles, pointed to one (with the label still on) and said, "This one had Bud Light," pointed to the other (again, with the label) and said, "This one had Coors Light"

Oooh, you can order and listen to bits of Mercury, Melissa Kaplan's new cd. I think I know what I'm getting with tonight's tip money...

Laundering

Last night I asked the fellow doing laundry not to do his laundry at this hour, since it is very loud and the machine is right outside my door. It was 1am, he'd started doing it at midnight, I was trying to sleep, and he was stunned that I was asking him to do his laundry at a decent hour.

Help Needed

When compiling my portfolio, I decided to include drawing from Art class to show that I do, indeed, have some kind of non-computer talent. I am, however, not the best judge of my work, so I'm looking for some much-appreciated help and input to pick the top two or three. It might take a little time, but I'll send you a thank-you note if you leave your email in comments.

The Day!

Well, today's the day that TCB and I are off to the Colts game. It's starting so well: an hour after we meant to leave, he's just now getting in the shower. He definitely took advantage of the cheeper beer in the Haute last night and whined about getting up this morning. This girl had no sympathy.

Helpful Hints from Palila

To one of the neightbors upstairs: When trying to hide a kitty (as I would like to do,) it's best if you don't pick one that likes to meow loudly and run around, knocking things over. Everyone else in the building knows.
