New Job?

On a whim, Cheech and I looked up how much you get if you become a sperm donor. Turns out there's more in which you can invest, like home sperm-count tests, home collection jars, and collection methods that allow you to do two jobs at once, if you know what I'm sayin'.

Acer Laptop - Like Used - Slightly Shotguned

Acer Laptop, Like Used, Slightly Shotguned [I think it's the model after my year's]

I need a massage

I am so sore today from 8 hours of work last night. My arms hurt from carrying pitchers and kegs, my head hurts from the noise, and my hands are very green from the dye. I'm trying to rest up and heal because today I'm scheduled for an even longer shift today and one just as long tomorrow. This is not my most favorite schedule ever.
Yesterday, I got 2 packages in the mail, both from my mother. One was Wolferman's, so now I have 72 mini English muffins in my freezer and the other was my Easter basket- full of chocolate with almonds, some makeup samples, a shirt, and a frog puppet that sings with you move its mouth. Well, it doesn't so much sing as croak, and you have to provide the rhythm.

Ugh

Stan Stan the Maintenance Man was by here to fix the dryer yesterday. It wasn't the smell that tipped me off this time- it was the cigarette butts in front of the dryer.

Packing

I'm going to start packing things up over here- I'll still be posting to both sites, but Soccer/CS.com is going to have all the posts, while soccercs.blogspot's not going to have all of them. Start updating your links!

Reunion

I saw Gordon today, he was in Indiana for a wedding and I haven't seen him since around graduation. We went with Pete to the Eiteljorg Museum, saw the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit. (Some books in the gift shop that were not purchased "My Name is Georgia" and "Georgia's Bones"), met a demanding, attention-starved kitty and then went to Don Pablos for a long dinner before Gordon's flight. In our shirt exchange (Of a Rose shirt for an MIT shirt, I forgot my part of it), he gave me the Best Shirt Ever: an MIT shirt that says "Fear the Beaver" on the back.
It was awesome to see Gordon- there's just something about old friends from growing up that you can laugh and laugh with, that you can say the silly with, laugh for ten minutes, and have no idea how it started. I'm going to have to plan on going out to B-town to visit both Gordon and Eva before Gordon moves. It's been too long since seeing Eva and I don't want to go another two years before seeing Gordon again.

5 x 5

I was watching Contact, my favorite movie last night, and noticed that Ellie, when she's in The Machine and Control asks if she's doing alright, she replies reading you five by five. On Buffy, they couldn't figure out what Faith meant by it. Five by five is a radio communications expression that means 'loud and clear'. One of the fives represents the S units of reception strength. The other five is a rating of the signal clarity, so Five by five is a good, clear signal. In any event, I'm so happy that Kent was around to hear Ellie, even if the signal was one by one.

Gardenburger-shmargenburger

Last night, as a pre-bartending snack, I made Gardenburger's Meatless Meatballs with Penne Marinara. No matter what Rent says, they do not taste the same if you close your eyes, and they certainly don't act the same the next day. Forget running today- I'm staying as much as possible in a fetal position trying not to throw up my chicken noodle soup.

The time has come to talk of many things

To satisfy the itch and need for some change in my life, I'm slowly moving Soccer/CS to its own domain to utilize Wordpress. I'm not moving everything immediately, and I'll be posting most things to both places for a little while, until I get everything set up over there. Also, I'm keeping this blogspot address as an archive of past posts. Posts may build the blog, but it's the comments that keep me warm at night.

buu

Free! Japanese Lessons. it's an interesting classroom, featuring such lessons as " Is the Toilet Far? I Really Gotta Go!" and " You Have a Lot of Cats, Don't You!" and " You're Drunk Again!" As a bonus: translate your name into Japanese. Now, if only they had Kubota-san saying "be-bon!" when you get an answer right.

More

More about my sister living with a call girl.

In other news, I saw the tv ad for a local towing service- Mike's - and their catch phrase is "The Happy Hooker!"

Yum

Since V-D, I've been eating a lot of chocolate and Mom sent me Green & Black's milk chocolate with almonds bar. It's so good in a creamy, smooth, melts-in-your-mouth, makes-you-feel-good, Fair Trade way. I'd really like to try their dark chocolate, caramel, maya, cherry.. heck, all of it!
Green & Black is having a Competition for some really yummy stuff. Unfortunately, requirement #1 is that you have to live in the UK. Enter, Ghani! Enter for me!

Small panic

Prematurely looking up residency requirements today, I found the university definition of Georgia residency:
An independent student must reside in Georgia at least 12 months during which time there is no full-time enrollment in an institution of higher education and there is proof that the primary purpose for being in Georgia is other than for an education.

But I could scoot by on this:
Institutions may waive out-of-state tuition for the following: [...] 4) nonresident graduate students who hold teaching or research assistantships requiring at least one-third time service at such institution;

That is, I could scoot if I hadn't been poking around in the department's website, trying to find any clue as to when I'd hear back from them, and found a secret, somewhat-hidden FAQ, which states:
"You will need to place your request for an assistantship in writing and submit it with your application materials."

It also has an admission requirement that I didn't find anywhere else, but that I kind of fufilled and is the FAQ for last year, giving a deadline of Feb 1, 2004. But I definitely didn't know about the assistantship request. When If I get in, I should be able to find one by second semester; I'm hoping to be a Calculus assistant. I'd walk in the first day with a skirt, little tank top, ponytail and glasses, and tell the mostly-male class, "I love Calculus, it exites me. Let's talk about math!" in much the same way that the cutest math professor ever, Dr. Evans, says that when she's sad, she does math. But without the cuteness because, let's face it, sex sells. And math is sexy.

For your ears

racermason, with a really cute front singer and a groovy, trippy sound. Especially recommended audio: Petal, Liars Life and Spare Me a Minute (which shows up as Truck). I haven't listened to the remixes or live things yet. (thanks, joel!)

Best Degree

Slashdot had a discussion on the Best Degree to Pair w/ a B.Sc. in Computer Science. Sounds like the best thing is to get your MS in a specialization or get jorb experience, but the extra degree gets you more $$ and better opportunities. I'm still waiting to hear from GA Tech and it's driving me batty. I had a dream the other night about getting a housing flyer in the mail from them (campus mail style) but still not knowing if I'd gotten in. Since TCB's interview for the PhD went so well, my new paranoia is that he'll get in and I won't, creating the need for me to get a real job.

Date

Well, my date to DDD formal this Saturday can't go, and TCB's mom is visiting him this weekend in Atlanta, so now I need a date to formal. Anybody interested?

Qualifications:
a. Must look good on my arm
2. Must like to dance
D) Must email me or comment by Tuesday, 8 March at 1pm est

Hook-a-roommate

I've had roommates before. I've had slutty roommates, annoying roommates, messy roommates, thoughtful roommates, party animal roommates and roommates I hardly ever saw, but none that were actually hos. That's right, my sister's roommate has a pimp.

I love this bar

Tonight, since I was tired of sitting in my Very Clean Apartment and tired of listening to the neighbor's puppy bark in its little seal barky-voice, I went to Sonka's for their free beer tasting, dinner, and entertainment. Apparently, there was a band tonight (I had no idea) and tonight was Foreign Language Night. We tried to teach one of the hardcore Guiness drinkers a new language: "I would like two pitchers of Bud Light, please."

This is where it gets scary

About one year ago, drunk at Sonka's, is when TCB and I met. I was cussing up a storm, had been drinking with a friend at home watching movies, got a call that we should come to Sonka's and I convinced them that they should come and get our drunk asses. So while we were there, my friend saw a guy he kind of knew from college (who was back getting his Masters, unbeknownst to my friend,) called him over and it all began. Well, actually, it also involved a drunk dial to my sister, him telling me I sounded like a girl from jersey, not one you take home to meet mom, and then the walk to the DSP house via T's, a game of pool and a burger, then the walk back to Sonka's to get his car, and then the falling asleep on my couch while watching "Sliding Doors." I think I'd still take you home.

As I write, gentle reader, Stan is in my hallway, repairing my ceiling. He's doing the usual "put a board over it and screw it in, then maybe paint over it" job. Not really the best way to fix it, but at least something's happening.

50!

I just finished running my 50th mile for the year!

And then I came back to a ladder in my hallway, heard Stan start his truck and ran outside to see what was going on. He's going to fix the hall leak-spot tomorrow, and then ask Wendy about the ceiling in the living room. Basically, if he goes up into the plaster ceiling and it turns out to be a bigger problem than it seems, then I'm in for a huge inconvenience. If he doesn't, then I'm left with an unsightly giant growing crack from a beam that wasn't properly put in. So I kind of have a choice.

And finally, tonight's Kenny's last night working at Sonka's without the owner or the manager. I have a feeling I'm in for a long evening. A long, fun evening.

Fish fishy

Inspired by Dawn's song about anchovies (.wav) and that they were on sale at Kroger, I put them on my pizza last night. Just half, because they smelled really fishy and I was unsure if I'd like them. I concluded that the anchovies are like Dawn: I didn't hate them, though I can see why a few people would like them (her), I don't think I like them all that much, and can definitely see why noses are crinkled and people want them (her) off the menu (show.) Too bad for Buffy, the show's over and Dawn lived, but as for the anchovies, they can be left off my pizza.
Another reason anchovies are like Dawn: they have lots of little bones.

Account

TCB's account of yesterday's fun: Crash into me
So there I was, sitting in the back of a police car thinking to myself, "how did I get myself into this mess."

Sound like an interesting story? Well, it isn't really.

Palila

Since I'm the top site if you Google "Palila", I thought the endangered Palila bird (with sound, if you want it) needed some promotion. Save the Big Island bird!

Oh, bells

I have the set or pictures up from Nicole and Cyril's wedding this weekend. Looking through some of the rejected photos, I realised that I have a habit when I'm taking drunk photos: I'll take three or four photos of the same couple, even though the first one's fine, and you can see their faces get more and more tired of smiling.

First: he's ok

Well, TCB was in a car accident this morning during his 2-hour, 50-mile drive to work in Atlanta traffic down 400. He hadn't even made it out of the town he lives in when a woman ran a red light, TCB tried to stop, and T-boned her. Fortunately, he was in a company truck and it was low enough impact that the air bag didn't go off, but this is just more incentive for him to get an apartment downtown, closer to work and close to GA Tech.

Knight

Queen Dubs Bill Gates Honorary British Knight
Apparently, the queen thinks:
"She said all the kids do (use computers) and they are very useful … but typing is not as natural for her as it is for young people,"

As an American, Gates is not entitled to use "Sir" before his name, but he can put the initials K.B.E. after his name.

Ordination

Well, I've become ordained as a minister of the Universal Life Church. Anybody have a flaky minister, and want to get married? Wait, does this mean I'm eligible to do excorcisms?

Urges

Today, I had the urge to clean out my closet and take out all the extra shoes. ThenI ignored it until it went away and started preoccupying myself with the new season of The Amazing Race starting tonight and then reading about it on TwoP.

The crash

Article about the crash I saw on tv last night. From this picture, it looks like it wasn't where Mom and I thought it was, and that the JC Press got to the scene before the CBS people did, since the footage last night had more snow-covered produce.
